Mr. Joel received his undergraduate degree in Engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology and an MBA from New York University. In 1964, Mr. Joel received a law degree from New York University and then a Masters in Law from New York University in 1967.

Mr. Joel is admitted to the Bars of New Jersey, New York, and the District of Columbia as well as the Federal District Courts for the District of New Jersey, the Southern District of New York, the Eastern District of New York, the Second and Third Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States Supreme Court. Mr. Joel is also registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

Mr. Joel was employed as an engineer with Exxon and the Bell System and was Chief Patent Counsel for Timex and General Time before entering private practice.  Mr. Joel’s practice continued to involve patents, trademarks, and copyrights but expanded to other areas of the law including real estate, estates and trusts, and litigation.

Mr. Joel served as a councilman in the Borough of Oradell and was a member of the Oradell and River Dell Boards of Education besides being active in the community and youth sports.

Richard received his undergraduate and Juris Doctor degrees from Villanova University in 1989 and 1992, respectively. Mr. Joel is admitted to the Bars of the State of New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania; the Federal District Court for the Districts of New Jersey, the Eastern District of New York, and the Southern District of New York; the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit; and the United States Supreme Court. He is a member of the American Bar Association, New Jersey State Bar Association, New York State Bar Association, and Bergen County Bar Association.

Mr. Joel has been associated with the firm since 1992 and became a Partner in 1996. He is a graduate of The Justice Morris Pashman American Inn of Court where he successfully completed a two year program in trial advocacy. Mr. Joel has served as a pool attorney for the Bergen County Office of the Public Defender and as the Municipal Court Public Defender for the Borough of Oradell.  He has been appointed by the Court in many guardianship and other proceedings in the Superior Court of New Jersey.  Richard is a panelist on the Bergen County Early Settlement Panel wherein he assists in resolving divorce cases.

Mr. Joel is Chairman of the Ridgewood Planning Board and is actively involved with the Oradell Lions Club (a member and has served as President, Vice President, Treasurer and a Trustee), Valley Toastmasters (a member and has served as President, Vice President and Treasurer and has achieved Advanced Toastmaster and Competent Leader awards), Ridgewood Republican Club, Republican County Committee, Ridgewood Voter Participation Committee (a member and has served as the Chairperson), Oradell Chamber of Commerce (President and Trustee), and Oradell Public Library Foundation (Trustee).

Richard has served as Trustee for The HLA Registry Foundation, Inc., Oradell Lions Club, and the Advisory Board for Camp Marcella, a New Jersey Camp for Blind Children, and Counsel to several non-profit corporations including the Breast Cancer Connection, Inc., Tony Kyasky Fund, Inc., New Jersey Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Association, Inc., and The HLA Registry Foundation, Inc.  He also coaches youth baseball and wrestling and is a Lector and Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion at Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Ridgewood.

Mr. Joel received his undergraduate degree from Boston College and his Juris Doctor degree from The Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law. He is a Certified Elder Law Attorney (CELA) as designated by The American Bar Association approved National Elder Law Foundation.

Mr. Joel is active in legal education as a legal studies professor at Bergen Community College. Larry is a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys and the Elder Law Practice Groups of the New Jersey State and Bergen County Bar Associations. He is also a member of the New York and American Bar Associations.

Mr. Joel has been and continues to be involved in many volunteer, charitable, educational and non-profit organizations including the Lions Club, Knights of Columbus, Parent’s Association for the Advancement of Girl’s Gymnastics, Morristown High School Cheerleading and Music Boosters, Boston College Club of New Jersey and Little League.  Larry has also been a frequent lecturer for community organizations including hospitals, educational institutions, temples, libraries, churches, the New Jersey Institute for Continuing Legal Education, and the New Jersey State Bar Association.

Mr. Joel has served the New Jersey Supreme Court Office of Attorney Ethics as a Fee Arbitration Chairman.
